It was a busy weekend for many prospects in the Northwest. College coaches are able to call or text players as of Friday night at 12am under the new NCAA rules. Left Coast Recruiting caught up with some prospects in the Northwest to see how the weekend went.

2013

Will Dorsey - Dorsey is a solid point guard who is fearless on the court. The 5’9 guard is a leader and has the will to help his team win. Any D-2 coach who needs a coachable player, Dorsey is your guy. Dorsey has received interest from Florida International and USC. In the fall Dorsey will visit Florida International on an official visit.

Tucker Haymond - Haymond has come a long way since his freshman days. Haymond is reliable with the ball in his hands, can get to the rim, rebound, and has worked on his jumper. Boise State is the newest school to contact Haymond.

D.J. Fenner - Fenner has been flying under the radar but colleges have been taking notice as of lately. Fenner has been contacted by USC, Gonzaga, and Quinnipiac. It will be a make or break July for the shooting guard. Fenner plans on taking an unofficial to Gonzaga in the near future.

Perrion Callandret - Callandret made a name for himself last year playing alongside 2013 superstar Zach Lavine. Callandret held his own all last year and is doing well on the AAU scene this year. Callandret has heard from Washington, USC, Boise State, Utah, Portland, Seattle U, Rice, and TCU,

2014

Josh Martin – Martin is one of, if not the most athletic prospect in the Northwest. By the end of July, Martin will have his name on the map. Harvard, San Francisco, Washington, and Stanford have been in contact with Martin.

Kameron Chatman - Chatman keeps growing and is now a solid strong forward. Chatman displays nice ball handling and has worked on his jumper. Louisville, Oregon State and USC contacted Chatman over the weekend. Just a couple weeks ago Chatman picked up an offer from Arizona.

Donaven Dorsey - Dorsey can play the 1-4 at 6’6. The only thing holding Dorsey back is himself. Many people you talk to see the talent he displays but heart is the question. Dorsey has heard from Boise State, Washington State, Oregon State, Washington, and the University of California.

Tramaine Isabell - Isabell is quick point guard who shined during the Rose City Showcase in Portland, Oregon a couple weeks back. The Seattle Rotary guard heard from Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, and UC Irvine.

Jason Todd - Todd is an interesting prospect with a nice upside. At a young age, Todd is poised on the court and doesn’t seem rattled. At 6’5 Todd can play the 3 and 4 position. Oregon State, Stanford, Santa Clara, Portland, Boise State, and Northern Arizona have contacted the young man. Off topic but Todd also throws an 89 mph fastball but took time off to focus on basketball.

6’5 wing Tre’Shaun Lexing has drawn interest from college coaches as of lately. Lexing came on the scene last summer during AAU. The left coast wing has had a nice junior year for Lincoln High School this year. Lexing is looking to have a huge summer. Left Coast Recruiting caught up with Lexing to talk recruiting.

How is your recruiting going?

It’s going good. I have a lot of interest from mostly all of the Pac-12 schools and NC State is showing some interest as well. I just have to have a big year this summer.

Do you have any offers?

Washington State, Gonzaga, Santa Clara, and Oregon State.

What part of your game do you need to work on?

My main focus I need to work on is my right hand.

Do any of the schools that are recruiting you stick out more than others?

As of right now, Cal and Washington State.

What are your goals for the summer?

To become a better player and to get more offers instead of interest.

How would you describe your game?

I would say a scorer, a mismatch player, a player who is all over the court. I can do a little bit of everything, a player you need on the court.

Will you still be playing with the Northwest Panthers this summer on the AAU circuit?

Yeah I will.

Lexing will need to have a huge summer to turn his interest to offers. The 2013 wing has all the tools play at the D1 level. Hard work and dedication will be the key to Lexing’s success. Left Coast Recruiting will keep the fans updated on Lexing’s recruitment.

Left Coast Recruiting will be on hand for the Martin Luther King Hoopfest that will be held at the University of Washington. We have been at many Washington High School basketball games this year but this one day will feature many of the top teams in the state and two teams from out of state. And with that comes much of the top talent.

The teams:

Lincoln

2012 Isaac Barsh – A wing who is dangerous on the baseline. Not only can Barsh score but he can rebound as well.

2013 Tre’Shaun Lexing – Lexing is an intriguing wing who can do pretty much a bit of everything. He can rebound, pass, and score. Lexing is at his best with the ball in his hands.

Lake Washington

2012 Darien Nelson-Henry- A big center that is known for dominating the paint. He is already committed to Penn.

2012 Matt Staudacher- A guard that is known for his ability to shoot. He can light up a scoreboard.

Bothell

2013 Zach Lavine – Lavine is one of the best players in the state. The sharp shooting Bothell guard can easily get 30 on any given night. Lavine holds offers from almost every Pac-12 school.

O’Dea

2012 Sekou Wiggs – A hard working guard who has a nice mid-range game. Wiggs works hard on offense and defense. Wiggs is getting mid-major interest.

Long Beach Poly (CA)

2013 Jordan Bell – A forward who is nationally known. Bell is a handful on defense and offense. Washington has offered the talented big man.

Franklin

2012 Arell Hennings- A talented point guard, that shows that he has what it takes to compete at the D1 level. He can be a fun recruit to watch, this will be the first time that LCR has seen him this season. (more…)

2014 guard Ahmaad Rorie has been putting up crazy numbers this year for Clover Park High School. Rorie has been making the competition look easy along side with his teammate, 2014 David Crisp. The Pac-12 and other colleges around the nation have taken notice to Rorie.

Most kids don’t have the killer mentality on the court these days. Rorie is a kid who has a certain swagger on the court. The 6-foot-1 guard doesn’t back down from anyone and can hurt the opposition in many ways. With room to grow, it will be interesting to see where Rorie’s recruiting takes him.

What a coach would be getting out of the young star, is a player who can score in different ways. Although Rorie is young, his body is developed to draw contact and finish in the lane. Rorie can shoot it from mid-range to the three point line if need be. You can teach defense but not some of the offensive skills Rorie displays.

The colleges that are recruiting Rorie are Washington, Gonzaga, Detroit, Washington State, Cal, California Santa Barbara, Iowa, Boise State, and Seattle U. There will be plenty more schools involved in the next couple years

Last year Clover Park won the 2A state championship. They are the favorite to win it again this year behind Rorie and Crisp. The competition isn’t the best in the state at the 2A level. Once spring gets here and Rorie joins his Northwest Panthers AAU team, the real test will begin. The Panthers will travel in the spring and summer to play against the best competition in the nation.

Left Coast Recruiting will be giving the most up to date news on Rorie’s recruiting info.

Donovan Dorsey came on the scene this past summer. Playing with his AAU Team Mocha, Dorsey displayed an advanced level of play for his age. The 2014, 6-foot-5 point guard has the potential to be the best player in the state by the end of the year.

Dorsey is what you want out of a guard. A player with great court vision, who can attack the rim. Dorsey displays a nice mid-range jump shot and great body control. Defense wise, Dorsey is disciplined on the court.

Coaches from all over the country will know about Dorsey come next summer. Team ICP based out of Portland, Oregon is the AAU team Dorsey will play with. Washington, Seattle U, and UCLA have already shown interest.

Dorsey is flying under the radar right now. The potential is huge for this young man. Left Coast Recruiting will be following Dorsey’s recruitment very closely as well as his progress on the court.

Tucker Haymond is the heart of Garfield’s basketball team. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is an intriguing prospect. Haymond has a motor that doesn’t stop and is a player who is very coachable.

What Haymond brings to the court is intensity and passion. The Garfield Bulldog doesn’t take a play off and doesn’t back down to anybody. When you describe Haymond’s game you can say a lot. The 2013 guard can get to the rim and finish with contact, rebound, is very active on defense and is willing to sacrifice his body for the team. Haymond has a decent mid-range jump shot that extends to the three point line.

Schools have noticed Haymond’s talents and have shown interest. Washington, Washington State, San Diego State, Cal, Arizona, Portland State, Seattle University, Oregon State, BYU, Columbia, Yale, USF, Western Michigan, and Boise State have all been in contact with Haymond.

Western Michigan is the only school that Haymond holds an offer from. The Garfield Bulldogs are 1-1 right now. Haymond has scored 12 points in his first game and 25 in a losing effort against Beamer.

Expect a productive year out of Haymond. Left Coast Recruiting will be following Haymond’s recruiting closely.

Clover Park and Lakes High School both won the state championship last year in basketball. The Lakewood, Washington schools had their early season rivalry game Saturday night. The 2a championship trophy was sitting on the Clover Park bench and the 3a championship trophy was on the Lakes bench.

It was as intense game that lived up to the hype. Lakes battled through adversity and pulled out a come from behind victory to beat Clover Park. The young Clover Park team couldn’t keep their composure as they blew a lead and lost, 84-72.

The game started off as the Ahmaad Rorie and David Crisp show. Both 2014 guards are something special. They are a dynamic backcourt that will do damage on the court together for years to come. They can both hurt you in so many ways on the court. Their ability to score, pass, and play defense is incredible. Crisp finished the game with 13 points and Rorie had 27. (more…)

2012 Amedeo Della Valle may be the hottest name in recruiting right now. He put up 29 points the other night and since then his phone has been ringing off the hook.

The talented 6’6 point guard from Findlay Prep has really been picking up a lot of interest since the season has started. Coaches are seeing just how good this kid from Italy actually is, which is really good.

He already had a nice sizable list of offers; Cal, Arizona, Georgetown, Utah, Gonzaga, St. Mary’s, Creighton, UMASS, and Portland. However, lately 4 more schools have been in contact- USC, Boston College, UCLA, and UCONN.

Both UCLA and UCONN offered him. He talked with both Jim Calhoun and Phil Matthews (UCLA) by phone yesterday.

“[Jim Calhoun] talked a little bit about UCONN and just explained to me the program a little bit and then offered me,” Valle said about his conversation with the head coach at UCONN.

His conversation went similar when he talked with UCLA, Valle said, ” (more…)
