Andre McPhail is another recruit that is developing down at La Jolla Prep in San Diego. He is coming off a strong last few games for his team and his recruitment is beginning to really pick up. Left Coast Recruiting was able to catch up with McPhail and get the scoop on this versatile forward.
What position do you play?
Right now a three and a four. If we go real small, sometimes a five.
What’s your height and weight?
Are you a post- grad [at La Jolla]?
Where did you go to high school before?
I went to deer valley high school in the bay area.
What AAU team were you on?
I played for team superstar out of fresno.
What’s your playing style?
I can pretty much do a little bit of it all. I can handle the ball and start the break. I can take my man off the dribble, finish around the rim, find an open team-mate, [and] step back and hit the three. I’m [also] versatile on defense; I can step out and guard and defend in the post. I can also take a smaller defender inside and show off a variety of post moves.
What are you working on?
Working on my guard skills. I played post all through high school, and scouting services mostly knocked me. Saying, I was nothing but a under-sized big and I couldn’t step out and basically play a guard. I really just never had a chance to. I’m really working hard on my consistency, ball handling, perimeter defense, shooting, and go to moves.
Are you hearing from any schools? Any offers?
I’ve talked to a couple of schools but I’m in the process of getting eligible. I’m taking one class right now, and that should get me eligible. The majority of the schools that were recruiting me last year said they’d keep me in contact. But once I get that class and we ger further on into the season I should be getting some more looks.
Were you ranked out of High School?
I really don’t remember, but according to MaxPreps- I was #1 in california for rebounding and #5 in the nation.
